Only 11 of Whim Plantation’s original 150 acres survive at the museum, but the grounds thoroughly evoke the colonial days when sugarcane ruled St Croix. Damage from Hurricane Maria was extensive (the great house alone is in need of US$1 million in restoration), but you can still wander past the crumbling stone windmill or check out the library, archives and rotating exhibitions.
