Northern parts of Australia are braced for severe damage as two cyclones hit landfall creating a ‘cyclone sandwich’. Cyclone Lam near the Northern Territory has been classified category 3, while Cyclone Marcia, which is heading for the Queensland coast, is strengthening into a category 5 cyclone. Communities in central Queensland near Mackay and Gladstone are preparing for the cyclone to blow in around 3am on Friday morning with wind gusts up to 270 km per hour. Heavy rain which may cause flooding is expected by Saturday from central Queensland to the southern border. Read more: news.com.au
