Northern parts of Australia are braced for severe damage as two cyclones hit landfall creating a ‘cyclone sandwich’. Cyclone Lam near the Northern Territory has been classified category 3, while Cyclone Marcia, which is heading for the Queensland coast, is strengthening into a category 5 cyclone. Communities in central Queensland near Mackay and Gladstone are preparing for the cyclone to blow in around 3am on Friday morning with wind gusts up to 270 km per hour.
