A major bushfire is burning about 60 kilometres north of Adelaide in South Australia, threatening homes and lives.
Properties have already been lost and one man has been taken to hospital with severe burns. The dry conditions and wind speeds in the area were impacting the largely volunteer firefighters efforts to contain the fire. Power cuts have resulted in traffic chaos and drinking water is limited due to damage to the main storage tank the for the local area. Meanwhile, a blaze at Lameroo, in the Murray Mallee near the border with Victoria, has been contained. As has another fire in the Clare Valley area after earlier threatening the town of Mintaro.
