Broken Hill included in Australia's National Heritage List

The outback mining town of Broken Hill has been included on the National Heritage List, a national first. The Federal Government announced Australia’s ‘Silver City’, Broken Hill, would join 102 other places on the National Heritage list. Locals hope the announcement will boost the town’s profile as a place to visit with its excellent arts and culture as well as its heritage buildings. The Minister for Environment Greg Hunt said the listing for Broken Hill recognises over 130 years of continuous mining operations as well as its technical pioneering role in the development of occupational health and safety standards and environmental regeneration efforts.
