There's something a little sci-fi about the soaring concrete domes and rocket-ship minaret of this former state mosque. Opened in 1934 it's a striking blend of art deco, neoclassical and Middle Eastern influences. Four sultans are buried here.

Dress modestly and, provided there's someone to usher you in, you can step inside the octagonal prayer hall to admire the stained-glass dome.
