About James
I've been writing for Lonely Planet for almost 20 years, and the gig brought me from London to Cape Town, where I'm married with two kids. I'm passionate about art and culture - you'll see that many of the travel articles on my website have a cultural angle. Happily I got a job in 2020 (after 18 years as a freelancer), heading up the EMEA content team for the Ten Group, a leading lifestyle and travel concierge service with clients including Coutts bank. It's a media job though, so I'm definitely still available for freelance LP work! Oh, I've travelled overland from London to Timbuktu - it was the beginning of my interest in all things African, from music to wildlife. I also love wine, and have been lucky enough to take the reins of a digital wine magazine at Ten.
