About Emilie
I am a freelance journalist specializing in the environment, business, sustainability and development issues, with a particular interest in Africa.
My first big trip was to Mali at the age of eight to visit my grandparents, who had taken a late-career opportunity. The trip unleashed a passion for travel and other cultures and I haven’t stopped traveling since.
I have co-authored more than 30 books for Lonely Planet and my work has appeared in The Economist, The Guardian, The Telegraph, Atlas Obscura, the BBC and Mongabay, amongst others. I also work as the Africa editor of Global Water Intelligence, a publication specializing in the water sector.
