If you live in Finland and are missing airplane meals, you may be interested in buying them to enjoy on firm ground. Carrier Finnair has started selling ready-made business class-inspired meals in a store located near Helsinki Airport in the city of Vantaa.

The ‘Taste of Finnair’ products are available at the the K-Citymarket Tammisto, and are inspired by Nordic and Japanese flavors and seasonal ingredients. The initial menus include Finnish reindeer and beef in teriyaki-radish sauce with spring onion and rice, which draws on Tokyo's street food culture. Customers can also buy a roasted carrot and blue cheese mousse with hazelnut starter, and a smoked char and chanterelle risotto main.

Two main course options are available throughout the week from Monday to Sunday, and an additional appetiser is on sale from Friday to Sunday. The menu changes every two weeks, and starters cost from €5.90 ($6.92) and main courses from €12.90 ($15.13). The meals have been designed by Finnair’s chefs and are handmade in the airline’s dedicated Finnair Kitchen. If the pilot is successful, Finnair might increase production and start selling the meals in other stores too.

“We want to offer the opportunity for a Finnair experience and everyday luxury at home, now that travel has been restricted in many ways," says Marika Nieminen, Finnair Kitchen VP. “At the same time, this is a new business opening for us and employs our chefs in Vantaa. As so many of Finnair Kitchen’s employees are temporarily laid off, the project enables us to create new work and employment for our people.”
