‘Tis the season, but this year things are a little bit different, and people around the world have been forced to adjust their long-held and much-loved traditions in a responsible and safe way. One such example that has taken a downturn is gathering in crowds to soak in the Christmas mood by viewing lights, trees, markets and decorations at different sites. With that in mind, some tech experts have come together to invent a Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge extension that allows users to upload and virtually browse some of the most beautiful Christmas walks around the world.
Called ‘Tab with A view: Christmas edition", the add-on allows you to experience the most beautiful Christmas walks around the world, right from your browser. The idea was created in the hopes of helping cure the travel bug and bring some cheer to everyone with beautiful sights and sounds. Users add the extension on to their browser, and from there they can look through different scenes submitted by others.
Viewers can look out private windows with ambient sound that allow them to experience the life of someone else, as well as exploring city walks. They can look at hiking trips and make visits to thousands of beautiful spots with a view from bars, restaurants, and hotels. There’s images and videos taken from drones, and virtual tours. It goes beyond pretty images however. Whenever a used opens a new tab there is a destination to discover or plan future trips with real-time flight information, visa requirements based on nationality and live COVID-19 information.
"Like the majority of us, I also loved traveling around the world, but unfortunately, COVID-19 has brought the world to a standstill. I created Tab With a View so that people across the globe could experience the beautiful world virtually, right from their browsers. I genuinely believe that during these difficult times - especially for those yearning to travel - Tab with a View will give those stuck at home something exciting to explore, especially those who’ve had to cancel travel plans and will be apart from friends and family this holiday season. We could all use something inspiring and something to look forward to when it’s safe to travel again,” Rahul Sharma, Tab With a View Founder told Lonely Planet. The extension is available at the Tab With a View website.
